Rockinghorse Charity: Official Event Coach 2023

It was exciting to this year to be invited to partner with Rockinghorse as their official event coach for 2023.

Rockinghorse is a Brighton-based charity that has been supporting children in Sussex for over 50 years. Set up in 1967 by Dr Trevor Mann as the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton, they raise money to provide live-saving medical equipment and additional services with the aim of improving the lives of sick children throughout Sussex.

Many runners are taking on some of the big UK road events like Brighton Half-Marathon, Brighton Marathon and London Landmarks in aid of Rockinghorse's superb cause, so it was nice to be able to help the runners out by providing some training plans and newsletters packed with advice. The links to these can be found on this webpage: https://www.rockinghorse.org.uk/news/running-coach-offers-support-to-rockinghorse-runners/. If you found any of these useful, please let me know! I also led out a sunny long run in February, shortly before the Brighton Half-Marathon, which gave the runners a chance to talk all things training whilst logging a lovely ninety minutes along the clifftop towards Rottingdean and back.

I commented: “It’s fantastic to see so many runners training hard over the winter period to raise money for Rockinghorse. As their official coaching partner, I’m aiming to provide direction, motivation and advice for athletes to best prepare them for tough challenges like the London Marathon. I would advise runners to keep their training varied, include plenty of rest, be mindful of good technique and make an effort to keep it fun!”

Emma Cunliffe, Supporter Engagement Manager at Rockinghorse said: “We are so pleased to have Michael join Team Rockinghorse as our coaching partner. He is going to be helping all our amazing supporters who are taking on events in 2023, and we’re really grateful for him offering his services.”

Best of luck to all the Rockinghorse runners for their training this year!
